Prices of essential commodities in Nairobi are increasing due to unpredictable weather conditions and a slight decrease in supply, according to traders.
A recent spot check by KNA crew at Muthurwa market revealed rising prices for staple food items such as maize flour, wheat flour, cereals, and vegetables.
The price of a sack of cabbages has risen from Sh 950 to Sh 1,200, while a sack of potatoes now sells for Sh 3,000, up from Sh 1,800.
A kilogram of maize flour now costs Sh 55, up from Sh 50, and the price of 1kg of wheat flour has increased from Sh 95 to Sh 123.
However, the supply of onions and tomatoes has led to lower prices for these items.
Eunice Mwangi, a potato vendor at Muthurwa market, stated that the price increases have negatively impacted her business. She said,
"Initially, I used to make a 100 percent profit from the sale of a sack of potatoes, at the moment I am only making a profit of 20 percent."
