President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Ukur Yatani as the acting National Treasury CS, a move that comes a day after Henry Rotich was charged over the Arror-Kimwarer dams scandal.

Rotich, who was the National Treasury CS, has been charged alongside his Principal Secretary, Kamau Thugge.

Yatani, who is the Labour and Social Protection CS, will now hold two dockets until further notice.

According to a statement from State House, this move will ensure smooth operations and continuity at the National Treasury following the court order affecting Rotich and Thugge.

Dr. Julius Monzi Muia has been appointed as the new Treasury Principal Secretary, replacing Thugge.

Other changes announced on Wednesday include the appointment of Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa as the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence and Mr. Torome Saitoti as the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Planning.

Yatani was nominated as Labour CS in January last year in Cabinet changes that sparked speculations over a widening rift between President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

On Wednesday, the President did not make the announcement at State House but sent a press release signed by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararo.
