A security guard at a parking lot in the city centre caused significant damage on Thursday after losing control of a vehicle and smashing into seven other cars.
The guard, who according to colleagues had no prior experience driving a vehicle, was attempting to park a client's car at the parking lot located next to Re-Insurance Plaza off Taifa road when the incident occurred.
There are conflicting reports regarding how the guard obtained the car key, but it is clear that he soon lost control of the vehicle, resulting in substantial damage to seven nearby parked cars.
Following the accident, police arrived at the scene and took the guard into custody.
Witness Accounts and Response ¶
Edna Nyanchoka, a parking lot attendant, described the moment of the accident, stating: "I had a big bang and saw people running and thought we were under attack so I also ran and later found out that it was an accident." She further noted that this was the first time she had seen her colleague attempt to drive a vehicle.
It is worth noting that security guards at the parking lot are not authorized to drive cars, with designated drivers assigned to park vehicles for clients.
Tony Wambua, one of the motorists whose car was damaged in the incident, shared his experience with Nairobi News, explaining that he was informed about the accident by a friend and subsequently discovered that his car had been hit.

The parking lot where the incident occurred is owned by Koinange Investment and Development Limited.
