Kenya has been shaken by the brutal assassination of Jacob Juma, whose opinions and revelations on social media had threatened to expose the Government.

In the aftermath of the murder, some Jubilee bloggers have taken to sending threatening messages, including 'You’re next' on WhatsApp and Twitter.

Evidence of Threats

An email claiming to be a threat was sent to the author, but after investigation by the IT team, it was revealed to be a spoof.

Despite these threats, the Government has yet to comment on the matter, unlike in previous cases where the President and his Deputy have called for speedy investigations.

International Condemnation

The international media has condemned Kenya, drawing comparisons to Burundi and Congo, where opponents to the regime are silenced through forced disappearances and assassinations.

The murder of Jacob Juma has sparked concerns over the state of free speech in Kenya, with some journalists, such as Oliver Mathenge, seemingly justifying the silence of mainstream media.

Call for Investigation

The Police Commissioner has been urged to issue a comprehensive statement on the killers of Jacob Juma, utilizing footage from the CCTV system.

The recovered account cited reporting by Nation.
