Social media discussions were filled with criticism after photos of a flooded Nakumatt Ukay mall surfaced online following a heavy downpour in Nairobi on a Saturday afternoon.
The mall was built on land that the late Wangari Maathai had described as a river path, warning against construction on the site. Despite being marked for demolition in 2009, the building remained standing.
