Western politician Khalid Njiraini apologized to CORD leader Raila Odinga for leaving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to join the United Democratic Forum (UDF) before the 2013 elections.
Njiraini stated that his decision to leave ODM led to his loss of the Luanda parliamentary seat. He expressed his intention to support Raila Odinga in the upcoming election, saying, "I would like to apologize to Raila Odinga for ditching ODM in 2013. I attribute my failure to capture the Luanda parliamentary seat to this decision."
During a burial ceremony in Vihiga, Njiraini also pledged his allegiance to Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga ahead of the 2017 elections. Additionally, he criticized Emuhaya MP Wilbur Otichillo for being "stingy" and not providing sufficient financial support to locals.
In response, Otichillo and former Luanda parliamentary candidate Arthur Kibira denounced Njiraini’s comments, calling him selfish and a political schemer.
Raila Odinga, who attended the event, urged the Luhya community to register to vote in large numbers and participate in the 2017 General Election. He noted that approximately 300,000 voters from the region did not cast their ballots in the 2013 elections, while another 300,000 individuals did not register for identification cards.
Odinga criticized the Jubilee government for its handling of corruption, specifically mentioning the National Youth Service and Eurobond scandals. He argued, "When I told them that there was corruption at the NYS and that the then Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru was involved, they said it was fictitious and that Waiguru was merely a whistleblower. My argument was that at times the whistleblower is the thief."
Odinga claimed that the Jubilee government had failed to address corruption within its ranks and was struggling with leadership.
