A Kenya Defence Force (KDF) convoy was attacked by al-Shabaab militants near Tabto village in Lower Jubba, Somalia.
The attack occurred when the Kenyan military convoy was traveling from Tabto village to Dhobley on Thursday, February 23, and was targeted by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Casualties are feared due to the massive explosion from the IED, although the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed.
A KDF armored vehicle was destroyed during the attack. The KDF has not issued a statement on the incident.
Al-Shabaab has been using IEDs and remote-controlled bombs as a military strategy against Kenyan, Somali, and African Union forces in Somalia.
Earlier in the week, KDF soldiers narrowly escaped death when an IED exploded near their convoy in Southern Somalia. In January 2017, the militants attacked a KDF camp in Kulbiyow, resulting in several Kenyan deaths.
