A manager at Nakumatt supermarket headquarters along Mombasa Road in Nairobi was shot dead by gunmen on a motorcycle.
According to witnesses, James Karanja was driving home at about 6 pm when the attack occurred. The gunmen, reportedly three in number, smashed his window pane before shooting him in the head and chest.
The assailants then sped away from the scene, leaving Karanja dead. Police have launched an investigation into the killing.
Karanja, who was in charge of internal audit at Nakumatt, had been with the company since last year. His work involved auditing different departments, which led to the dismissal and prosecution of some staff members accused of embezzlement. Police said Karanja had received threats prior to his death.
