For 15 years, Kenyans have often heard a lady telling them that whoever they are trying to reach is not available by saying this ‘ Samahani, mteja wa nambari uliyopiga, hapatikani kwa sasa (Sorry, the mobile subscriber cannot be reached) and Nasikitika hatuwezi kukamilisha nambari uliyopiga, tafadhali angalia namba alafu upige tena, but what people do not know is the face of the lady herself.

The woman behind the beautiful voice is Maggie Wazome, a Mombasa-born woman who currently works as Safaricom’s Support Analyst at the Customer Care Department.

Maggie was in a group of 15 women who were hired by Andrew Crawford to read that statement for a voice-over test and the recordings were not intended for Safaricom. They however landed at Safaricom and the rest is history.

After a while, Maggie’s friend told her that he recognized her voice from a Safaricom call and a few months later, she applied for a Customer Care Representative job and got it after she told the interviewing panel that she was the woman behind the mteja hapatikani voice.

A few months later she was promoted to Support Analyst.
