An account from Nairobi News reported that Dr Patrick Ngugi Njoroge, the nominee for the position of the Central Bank governor, faced questioning from Members of Parliament regarding his marital status.
During a hearing by the National Assembly’s Finance, Trade and Planning Committee, Dr Njoroge was also asked about his lack of investments in Kenya.
In response to queries about his personal life, the 54-year-old Dr Njoroge stated,
I am single by choice and that is where I am today. You never know what I will have tomorrow.
Dr Njoroge, an International Monetary Fund adviser, was nominated to fill a three-month vacancy as the next CBK governor.
The committee is currently vetting nominees for positions at the Central Bank of Kenya, including Mr Jairus Mohammed Nyaoga for chairman and Mrs Sheila M’Mbijiwe for deputy governor.
Another nominee, Harun Sirima, who is also nominated as deputy governor, does not appear to have been scheduled for an interview by the committee.
