On July 24, 2019, the government announced a major shake-up in the National Treasury and Planning department. Ambassador Ukur Yattani, an Economics graduate from Egerton University and holder of a Master of Public Administration and Public Policy from New York University in the UK, has been named as the acting Cabinet Secretary in charge of National Treasury and Planning to take over from CS Henry Rotich.
Dr Julius Muia will serve as the Principal Secretary in place of PS Kamau Thugge, while Mr Torome Saitoti will serve as Principal Secretary for the State Department of Planning. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa has been appointed as the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence.
