On July 23, 2019, Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio suffered a devastating injury during a friendly match against Arsenal in the United States. The 23-year-old Spanish player ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, a serious injury that will require surgery.

According to Real Madrid, Asensio will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the damage. The club announced the news in a statement, citing the results of tests conducted by the Real Madrid Medical Services.

"After tests carried out on our player Marco Asensio by the Real Madrid Medical Services he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee," the club said.

Spanish media reported that such an injury would rule Asensio out for six to eight months, potentially missing most of the next La Liga season. The news is a significant blow to the player and the team, who were already facing a challenging season ahead.

Asensio's injury occurred just minutes after he scored an equalizing goal in Real's 2-2 draw against Arsenal. He was stretchered off the field in agony in the 65th minute, and the match finished 2-2 before Real prevailed in the penalty shootout.
