Kenyans expressed outrage on social media after the latest episode of FOX's 24 Legacy used CCTV footage from the 2013 Westgate mall attack, which killed at least 67 people.
A spokesperson for FOX studios confirmed that the footage would be deleted from the episode, according to qz.com.
Executive producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto issued a statement saying,
We regretfully included news footage of an attack in Nairobi... It will be removed from all future broadcasts and versions of the show. We apologize for any pain caused to the victims and their families and are deeply sorry.
The footage showed Al-Shabaab gunmen shooting victims as shoppers scrambled for safety, sparking widespread condemnation online using the hashtag #SomeoneTellFox.
The 2013 Westgate mall attack was one of the most emotional moments for the country, leaving over 200 people injured in addition to the fatalities.
The series had also incorrectly stated that the attack occurred in Egypt, further annoying Kenyans.
