The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has agreed to the demands of members of the county assemblies for improved pay perks. Approximately 1,800 MCAs will receive enhanced benefits, potentially putting many county government development programs on hold. The MCAs had been on strike since May to pressure the commission and the government to meet their demands.
Apart from the monthly salary of Sh79,200, each county assembly member will be entitled to a mileage allowance of Sh39,528 per month, up from the current Sh20,000.
