The Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) has named a team to lead the country's boxing team to the All Africa Games in Morocco, scheduled for August 19-31.
Head coach Musa Benjamin, who is also the Nairobi branch secretary of the Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK), will be assisted by veteran coach David Munuhe. Isaak Mbote, the BAK vice-chair, will serve as team manager.
The team will report to camp this Friday at the Police Depot in Mathare, Nairobi, to begin training ahead of the Games.
BFK executive committee has also made a resolution to incorporate former Kenyan international Duncan Kuria 'Sugar Ray' and Hassan Wafula into its executive.
On the team's prospects, head coach Musa Benjamin acknowledged that the task ahead is not easy but hailed the quality in the team.
“We have an uphill task ahead of us but there is potential in the team as we plan to start our training on Friday before we whittle down the squad to the required number,” said Benjamin.
Former international Duncan Kuria hailed the team appointed to head the national team, terming them the “best in the country”.
“I am grateful for the position and now I am looking forward to helping in uplifting the boxing game in the country. To me they are the best coaches that we have around as per AIBA certification. They are among the few three-star coaches in the country. I urge them to start early preparations for the games,” said Kuria.
