The four gunmen responsible for the deaths of 147 students at Garissa University College had spent the night before the attack in a hotel in Garissa, a hotel associated with a prominent local politician.
Details about the movements of the heavily armed attackers, who entered Kenya from Somalia, have begun to surface.
It remains unclear whether the hotel's management knew the identities of the men, who departed early on the day of the attack, Thursday, to carry out the assault that began around 5:30 am. Over 70 individuals were injured in addition to those killed.
Al Shabaab has taken responsibility for the attack.
According to government intelligence sources, all four gunmen were Kenyan nationals and were killed during the attack. Additionally, a fifth individual, believed to be involved, was reportedly apprehended while attempting to flee.
