On July 24, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made key appointments to his cabinet, naming Amb. Ukur Yatani Kanacho as the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Planning in an acting capacity.

Yatani, who is currently the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, will take over the Treasury role, while Dr. Julius Monzi Muia becomes the Principal Secretary for National Treasury.

Additionally, Torome Saitoti has been appointed the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Planning, and Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa will serve as the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence.
