Two Rivers Mall, East and Central Africa’s largest mall, has introduced a high-tech security system similar to the one used during President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
According to Capital FM News, the mall spent $10 million (Sh1 billion) on security alone.
The system, known as the ThruVis TS4C, is a digital barrier system that can detect concealed objects at a distance of four to 10 meters. It can be deployed in both fixed and mobile formats and integrated within a wider security architecture.
System Capabilities ¶
The ThruVis TS4C has a large depth of field, allowing continuous views and the ability to screen individuals even when they are in motion, the mall’s security boss, a former British Army military officer, explained to Capital FM News.
The system can detect metal or plastic weapons, explosives, liquids, and currency with almost 100 percent effectiveness. It uses Terahertz cameras that are completely passive and harmless.
The system provides real-time screening and automatic alerts to the mall’s security control room. The software also offers configurable recording functions, which can take a snapshot of a suspect for evidential purposes.
Mall Security Measures ¶
In addition to the ThruVis TS4C system, the mall is equipped with over 500 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras, which are closely monitored 24 hours a day by highly trained security guards and experts.
The mall also has over 60 uniformed and civilian-clothed armed police officers and over 800 highly trained security guards.
The security boss assured that the entire mall is strategically covered, with some cameras not physically visible, but always watched.
