A rally by CORD leader Raila Odinga in Turkana was disrupted when armed youth opened fire at the podium on Friday, February 17.
Raila Odinga escaped unhurt, but the meeting was stopped due to the incident. According to reports, the youths fired 10 live bullets towards the podium, causing pandemonium among the crowd.
The ODM party believes that the youth were hired goons and has alleged that a Jubilee party-allied MP is behind the incident. ODM Spokesman Philip Etale stated on Facebook,
"The goons were allegedly hired by an area MP who recently joined Jubilee from Ford Kenya party..Events of Katilia today are a clear indicator of how desperate Jubilee have become. Their unorthodox means to retain power won't work,"
Raila Odinga was on a three-day tour in Turkana and was expected to welcome a Jubilee MP, John Lodepe of Turkana Central, who has defected to ODM.
