Liverpool have submitted a reported £25m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
Benteke has been linked with a move away from Villa, with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United reportedly interested in signing him. Liverpool's previous £22m bid was rejected, with Villa seeking his £32.5m buyout clause.
Background ¶
Despite signing Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appears keen to strengthen his squad further, with Benteke and Carlos Bacca mentioned as potential targets.
Benteke has stated his desire to play in the Champions League, saying:
My agent knows my ambition. I want to play in the Champions League. That's a dream and my ambition.
Interest from Other Clubs ¶
Chelsea's Eden Hazard has expressed his support for Chelsea to sign Benteke, stating he would be happy if the club brought him to Stamford Bridge.
