On July 24, 2019, Mount Kenya University issued a memo to its students, emphasizing the importance of dressing decently.
According to the memo, students are expected to adhere to the dress code outlined in the student's handbook, Article 15.0 (page 20), which states that students should dress in line with their training, faculty ethics, and societal norms.
Associate Dean of Students, Martin Muiruri, warned that students who fail to dress appropriately will be denied access to the university premises and will be required to change their clothes.
Specifically, the memo stipulated that male students should have well-groomed hair, while female students should avoid wearing see-through clothes, bare backs, low breast cleavage, or micro-minis.
Additionally, the memo stated that students should not wear caps or hats during lectures, in the library, laboratory, or when addressing staff members.
Students who breach the dressing code will receive a warning, and after three warnings, they will be referred to a disciplinary committee.
