On July 24, 2019, Kenya's basketball team, Morans, made a thrilling comeback to defeat Ivory Coast 85-83 in the FIBA AfroCan competition, held in Bamako, Mali.
With 23 seconds left to play, the score was tied at 83 points each, but a stoppage-time jump shot from Tyler 'Durango' Okal sealed the win for Kenya. Okal led the team with 24 points, while Ronald Gombe contributed 18 points, Tom Wamukota scored 8 points, and Desmond Owili and Griffin Ligare each scored 7 points.
The match was intense, with Ivory Coast initially taking a 20-23 lead in the first quarter. However, Okal's 9 points in the second quarter helped Kenya take a 23-21 lead. The Ivorians bounced back in the third quarter, but Kenya managed to seal the victory with a 25-20 triumph in the fourth quarter.
Kenya will now face Tunisia in the quarterfinals, after Tunisia secured qualification to the quarters by topping Group D, which also included Egypt and Guinea.
