Ruth Gakii, who alleges she was battered by her ex-lover Alphonse Kambu, has denied reports that her father demanded Sh40 million from Kambu.
According to Ms Gakii, who is still hospitalized, her father never asked for any compensation or money from her ex-lover. She described reports suggesting otherwise as misleading.
Ms Gakii told Nairobi News, "I don’t know where these reports are coming from. Alphonse (Kambu) apologized to my father through a text message, but my father has not asked him for any money."
Background to the Assault ¶
Ms Gakii was assaulted on Sunday by Kambu, an employee of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), at her home along Kamiti Road. The incident occurred after Kambu arrived home drunk and demanded food.
The 26-year-old mother was left helpless when her house help ran away with her son, leaving her at the mercy of her abusive ex-lover. Ms Gakii claims that Kambu had been violent during their relationship, which ended in 2012.
A court battle over child custody followed their separation, with the court ruling in Ms Gakii’s favor. Despite this, Kambu has continued to spend time with his son on weekends.
Police are currently investigating the assault allegations and are searching for Kambu, who is said to have gone into hiding.
