Published on July 24, 2019, Beyoncé's Lion King album, The Gift, has been criticized for excluding Kenyan artists.

East African musician John Katana, who popularized the phrase Hakuna Matata, expressed his puzzlement over the snub.

Speaking to TMZ, Katana noted that he had observed Beyoncé's decision not to include any local artists on her album.

Disney, however, included other African artists, such as Nigerian pop star WizKid, Ghanaian producer Shatta Wale, and Nigerian singer Burna Boy, in their Lion King project.
