A tweet by Kenyan political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has been criticized by Simon Yel Yel, a South Sudanese concerned citizen. On May 14, 2015, Ngunyi tweeted that Presidents Nkrunziza of Burundi and Salva Kiir of South Sudan had staged coups against themselves to avoid elections.
Yel Yel argues that Ngunyi's claim is baseless and demonstrates intellectual bias. He reminds Ngunyi of his own words, where he quoted the Talmud, saying,
