Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, has made a significant reversal on his earlier decision to endorse Muungano Party leader Kivutha Kibwana for a direct nomination.

This change comes after a period of discord within the Wiper Party, where many members expressed agitation over what they perceived as favoritism shown by Kalonzo towards certain members.

On Tuesday, February 21, chaos erupted within the party as several leaders voiced their dissatisfaction with the handling of direct nominations by Kalonzo. This led to a rebellion of sorts, prompting Kalonzo to reconsider his stance.

As a result, Kalonzo announced that Kivutha Kibwana, the Makueni governor, would have to compete in fair nominations against other Wiper aspirants for the Makueni seat.

"I have agreed with party members that those who wish to contest for the Makueni seat will be given the chance to compete in fair nominations."

Kalonzo also stated his intention to discuss these developments with Kivutha Kibwana, expressing confidence that Kibwana would be willing to compete against his opponents.

"I will talk to Kibwana as I’m sure he has no problem taking on his opponents,"

This decision reflects the internal strife within the Wiper Party, particularly after senior leaders threatened to defect due to concerns over unfair nominations. Notable figures like Wiper chair David Musila and vice chair Mutula Kilonzo Junior have been vocal about the need for a fair approach to the primaries.
