Moses Kosgei and Georgina Rono emerged as the winners of the 2015 First Lady’s Half Marathon 21km men and women categories, respectively, held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Both Kosgei and Rono received Sh750,000 (approximately USD 8,232.77) for their victories in the event, which drew over 16,000 participants, including 3,000 in the main race.

Kosgei secured his win with a time of 1:01:28, narrowly beating Andrew Kimutai by seven seconds, while Mathew Kisorio came in third with a time of 1:01:53.

In the women’s category, Rono achieved a time of 1:04:05. However, due to concerns regarding the accuracy of the electronic timing system, organizers announced that they would provide hand timings the following day. According to Local Organising Committee chairman Barnabas Korir, "We shall provide the hand timings tomorrow because there is no way she could have run such a time."

Rono’s victory was clear, with Mercy Kibarus and Caroline Kilel finishing second and third, respectively.

Notable attendees included First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, who completed the 21km race with a time of 3:24:55, marking an improvement from her previous year’s performance. She was joined by various government officials and public figures, including President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

The Beyond Zero campaign marathon aims to raise 600 million shillings to equip mobile clinics in 27 counties.

Results:

  • Men 21km: Moses Kosgey (1:01:28), Andrew Kimutai (1:01:35), Mathew Kisorio (1:01:53)
  • Women 21km: Georgina Rono (1:04:05), Mercy Kibarus, Caroline Kilel
