Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko recently visited ailing Vitimbi actor Mzee Ojwang, who lives in poverty in a low-end estate in Nairobi.

Mzee Ojwang suffers from diabetes, which has led to partial blindness due to lack of proper medical care. During the visit, Mzee Ojwang shared with Sonko that he was dismissed from Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) after 40 years of service as an actor, without receiving any compensation or support in his old age.

Fellow actor Mama Kayai also stated that they were both let go from KBC without ceremony, despite their long service to the station and the nation. Currently, Mzee Ojwang lives in poverty, and while the government has promised assistance, it highlights the lack of appreciation for national heroes in Kenya.
