There has been a rise in cases of domestic violence, prompting concerns that the situation may worsen if relevant government bodies do not intervene.
A man named Alphonse Kambu, who works at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has been accused of battering his wife and leaving her with serious injuries.
According to a human rights defender trying to help the victim, Alphonse has not been arrested due to his claims of immunity as an employee of an international body. The defender stated:
"The man in question, Alphonse Kambu, brutally assaulted his wife, leaving her severely injured. He has told the victim that he enjoys immunity and cannot be arrested. True to his word, his wife reported the incident at Kiamumbi police station, but days later, he remains a free man. This man has issued threats to his wife, refused to heed court orders on child custody issued by the Milimani Court, and the victim now requires medical attention due to suspected internal bleeding."
The human rights defender demands Alphonse's immediate arrest, emphasizing that the era of immunity in cases of domestic violence must end.
