South African Police Officer Arrested for Alleged Gunpoint Robbery of Woman

A police officer in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint.

The woman reported the incident at a police station, alleging that the officer gave her a lift from King Williams Town before stopping at a deserted gravel road and pulling out his firearm.

According to her, the police officer then demanded that she hand over her cellphone, wallet, and bank cards or risk being shot.

A spokesman for the police station, Siphokazi Mawisa, said that further investigations are ongoing.
