Former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu secured the JAP ticket to contest the Kabete parliamentary seat after winning the party’s nominations on May 5 with 14,696 votes.
He defeated accountant Mburu Kang’ethe, who received 2,334 votes, and former Kikuyu MP Lewis Nguyai, who came in third with 1,950 votes.
Waititu, also known as Baba Yao, previously ran for Nairobi governor in 2013 but lost to ODM’s Evans Kidero. Following his nomination win, he expressed interest in the Kiambu governor’s seat, currently held by William Kabogo.
Kabogo has been at odds with several area MPs and county assembly members.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah posted on Facebook, saying, "Kiambu has now got a father," in apparent reference to Waititu’s win.
