Kenya's national rugby sevens team has qualified for the quarterfinals of the main cup in the Las Vegas Sevens after winning against Russia and Portugal on Day One.

The team, led by Benjamin Ayimba, secured a 24-21 victory over Russia in their first match, followed by a 38-0 win against Portugal in their second Pool A match.

During the match against Russia, Humphrey Kayange achieved a milestone by scoring his 150th try and Kenya's 1,500th sevens try. Additionally, Collins Injera scored three times, moving closer to Ben Gollings' record and ranking second in the all-time leading try scorers, behind Santiago Gomez Cora.

New Zealand, Kenya's other opponent in Pool A, also advanced to the quarterfinals with convincing wins over Portugal and Russia, scoring 80 points and conceding only one try.

Kenya and New Zealand, both having 6 points, will face each other on Saturday night to determine the pool leader.
