Peter Ndungunya Ole Sono, the ODM chairman in Nakuru, was acquitted by a Naivasha court on February 27 after being charged with shooting at journalists in 2015.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2015, in Oljorai village, Nakuru County, where Ole Sono fired at journalists covering a protest over alleged illegal encroachment on an access road.
Ole Sono faced four charges, including incitement to violence and disobedience of the law, for allegedly putting the lives of journalists Raphael Munge and Evans Barnabas Asiba at risk.
Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the accusations, noting that no one was injured during the incident.
As a result, the court directed the police to return Ole Sono's pistol and firearm certificates, which had been confiscated.
The acquittal follows a highly publicized incident in which Ole Sono opened fire on a group of journalists covering a demonstration by Oljorai residents over a disputed parcel of land.
