Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko organized a lavish funeral for his father, Gideon Kioko Kivanguli, who died on September 6 at a Nairobi hospital.
Mzee Kivanguli's remains were transported from the Lee Funeral home in a coffin encrusted with gold and diamond fakes, accompanied by a convoy of over 60 top-of-the-range vehicles and 10 outrider motorbikes.
The motorcade caused significant traffic congestion on Nairobi roads as it made its way to Mua Hills farms, the final resting place, located between Makutano Junction and Machakos Town.
An accident involving two Mercedes vehicles occurred along Mombasa Road during the procession. The Sonko Rescue Team ambulances attended to the injured.
Senator Sonko had invited the public to attend the funeral via a social media post on Monday, providing directions to the venue.
According to the senator, his father passed away while admitted to the intensive care unit of a Nairobi hospital.
