Students at Maasai Mara and Pwani Universities are gripped with fear of a possible terror attack, just one week after a similar attack at Moi University Garissa Campus resulted in the loss of over 140 lives.
Omolo Odhiambo, secretary of the Nyumba Kumi Committee at Maasai Mara University, reported that female students have left their hostels and are seeking refuge with colleagues who live off-campus. According to Mr. Odhiambo's post on the university's Facebook page, the situation is unbearable, especially as the university community is still mourning the loss of their comrades who fell victim to terrorism. He added that security measures have been increased as students prepare for their terminal exams.
A student at Maasai Mara University stated that rumors of an impending Al-Shabaab attack have spread, and one individual is reportedly in custody in connection with the threat. A suspicious person, believed to be of Somali origin, was seen roaming the campus, triggering concern among students. The individual was apprehended and is being held by the police pending further investigation. Despite the fears, authorities have assured students of their safety, and normalcy is gradually returning to the university.
