The county government of Kwale has prohibited meetings between national government leaders and Msambweni residents regarding a land dispute. The dispute concerns over 1,000 acres of land slated for takeover by the Kwale International Sugar Company, which currently belongs to more than 2,000 residents.
Governor Salim Mvurya and Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani have urged locals to remain calm and peaceful, avoiding any actions that could breach the peace. They have pledged to find a permanent solution to the issue. Governor Mvurya questioned the central government's organization of meetings in the area without involving the county government.
