Hundreds of Kenyan entertainers are set to attend a Sh10,000 per-attendant dinner to raise funds for the medication of Big Kev, who lost his eyesight late last year.
Big Kev, the founder of Tru Blaq Events, is currently recovering from his 8th brain surgery due to a recurrent head tumour since 2010. He lost his eyesight after the many surgeries he underwent, which caused optic atrophy.
According to Big Kev,
"The doctors call it optic atrophy. They say that the optic nerves dried up,"
as stated in his Facebook post on December 3, 2016.
Industry Support ¶
Fellow entertainers have come together to support Big Kev, with an invite-only event scheduled in Nairobi. The event, described by Big Ted, Big Kev’s long-time friend and State House communications official, as an opportunity
"to have fun and to celebrate him"
, aims to raise funds for Big Kev’s medical expenses.
At least 500 people are expected to attend the dinner, with the costs for the venue, logistics, and equipment waived by participating individuals. An M-Pesa paybill number will be released during the event, allowing the public to donate to the cause, with a minimum target of Sh20 million.
Big Kev’s Journey ¶
Big Kev entered the music scene in 1995 as a gospel singer and has since become a renowned events organiser in Kenya. Despite his struggles with a brain tumour, he has continued to inspire many with his determination and resilience.
In a recent Facebook post, Big Kev reflected on his struggles, stating
"I’m exhausted physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, psychologically and financially. I know this will disappoint many of you but I do not plan to give up. It is just how I feel. Instead I have decided to count my blessings,"
showcasing his unwavering spirit.
