A proposed bill that would allow primary students to access condoms has drawn criticism from educationists, who argue it contradicts the moral principles teachers aim to instill in students.
Omboka Milemba, National Chairman of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), expressed concerns that introducing condoms and contraceptives to primary school pupils could encourage early sexual activity.
In an interview with Ghetto Radio News, Milemba suggested that instead of providing contraceptives, the government should focus on incorporating sex education into the school curriculum.
Milemba also emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders in the drafting process before passing the proposed Reproductive Health Care Bill, sponsored by nominated Senator Judith Sijeny.
