The United Nations Security Council rejected a request from Kenya and the African Union to defer International Criminal Court (ICC) cases for a year. The decision came after only seven countries voted in favor of the request, falling short of the required number for approval by the 15-member body.
Eighth council members, including permanent members with veto powers such as the UK, France, and the US, abstained from voting. This outcome marks a rare instance in which a Security Council resolution has failed without being vetoed.
