Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko intervened to stop the eviction of an elderly widow, Mrs. Judy Wanjiru Njenga, from her lawfully owned house in Upper Hill.
Kilimani OCPD, Peter Kattam, city lawyer Waweru Gatonye, and Zackary Barasa of Siuna Auctioneers had attempted to evict Mrs. Njenga using an alleged illegal court order on behalf of a private developer.
Circumstances of the Eviction Attempt ¶
Sonko arrived at the scene with his Sonko Rescue Team to find police and auctioneers attempting to throw Mrs. Njenga out by force. He managed to stop the eviction and helped her return her belongings to the house.
Sonko accused the police of colluding with the private developer to grab the property. He assured Mrs. Njenga that she would not be bothered again and vowed to protect her.
Response and Gratitude ¶
Mrs. Njenga thanked Sonko and prayed for his long life so that he could continue helping others. This was not the first attempt by the private developer to evict her, as she had previously sought Sonko's help to reverse an earlier eviction order.
Background and Context ¶
Mrs. Njenga has lived in the property since 1974, and continues to reside there with her children after the death of her husband.
