On July 24, 2019, a tragic trend emerged in Nairobi's Kariobangi South, where at least four youths lost their lives due to excessive alcohol consumption.

Ayub Simba, a local youth leader, expressed concern over the high number of affordable alcohol outlets in the area, stating that they outnumber food joints.

Simba emphasized the need for the county government to regulate the sale of alcohol, ensuring that only responsible vendors are licensed and that buyers are screened for their ability to consume alcohol safely.

He noted, 'We can't blame them for the rate at which Wines and Spirit shops selling affordable alcohol are present is high than places selling affordable food.'

Simba's comments highlight the urgent need for the county government to address this issue and prevent further tragedies.
