On July 24, 2019, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was among the first leaders from the Rift Valley to arrive at the DCI offices, where he launched a scathing attack on DPP Noordin Haji and DCI George Kinoti.
His outburst came after the arrest of Treasury CS Henry Rotich, PS Kamau Thugge, and KVDA acting CEO Francis Kimosop, among other government officials.
‘We are creating a narrative to show there is a fight against corruption, but behind the scenes, we are just exercising PR stunts to lie to Kenyans,’ Murkomen was quoted as saying.
He alleged that the statement made by Haji during his press briefing on Monday morning was written elsewhere and ‘handed over to him’.
‘If you see that statement, it is not of a lawyer; it is not of a DPP. It is a statement that perhaps was written elsewhere and given to the DPP,’ Murkomen said.
However, it has since emerged that Murkomen's swipe at the two was a preemptive move to protect his skin. On Tuesday, he was in Court defending the group.
Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has exposed Murkomen for being a beneficiary of the recent scandal on the Arror and Kimwarer Dams.
According to Nyakundi, Murkomen is constructing a Sh200 million palatial residence in Nairobi's upmarket area of Karen adjacent to luxurious Bogani Villas.
‘This is money from the Dam Scam. When will DCI summon the petty Kalenjin thief?’ Nyakundi posited.
