Published on July 24, 2019, Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang Nyong'o has opened up on why his daughter Lupita Nyong'o, an Oscar award-winning actress, has been 'sneaking' into the country when visiting.
Speaking in a TV feature hosted by Lilian Muli, Professor Nyong'o candidly discussed his upbringing and that of his six children, including Lupita, who is his most famous child.
Since winning the 2013 Oscars Award for her role in the movie '12 Years a Slave', Lupita's life has undergone significant changes, and as a family, they have had to adjust to her global fame.
According to Professor Nyong'o, this is the reason behind Lupita's 'top secret' visits to Kenya, where she has to maintain a low profile to avoid media attention and ensure a peaceful family reunion.
“Being a celebrity, she can't just come home like that, otherwise journalists will be all over her and she will not enjoy coming home for a short time to be with the family and friends. So we said, okay you come in incognito, enjoy yourself, meet your friends, be a baby at home, because she likes that, and then go back and resume your life,” the governor said.
Professor Nyong'o revealed that Lupita has been 'sneaking' into the country on several occasions, including in May 2015 to attend her sister Esparanza's wedding in Naivasha, July 2016 to attend her cousin Kwame Nyong'o's wedding, and last year in May 2018 for an art investment mission in Kisumu.
