Kangemi residents have destroyed illicit brew valued at Sh3 million that was found hidden inside a residential house.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for sobriety in the crackdown on illicit brew, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and orderly approach.
"Tumwage pombe lakini tusikaribu mali ya watu wengine. Tusichome nyumba za watu. Tunataka kumaliza pombe sio kuharibu mambo ya watu,"
(We should destroy the illegal brews, but not people’s property. We should also not burn down people’s houses), he said.
The President's remarks came in response to reports of violence and destruction of property during recent raids on local pubs, health centers, and homes of local leaders.

Last week, President Kenyatta ordered a crackdown on illicit brew following a meeting with Central Kenya Members of Parliament at State House. Since then, large quantities of alcohol, referred to as "second generation," have been destroyed, and hundreds of people have been arrested.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) has suspended the operations of 385 local alcohol brands. According to initial reports from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), up to 2.5 million people may require rehabilitation.
