Vetting of senior traffic police officers in the Coast region has commenced, with a focus on explaining questionable mobile money transfers, academic qualifications, and integrity concerns.
According to National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman Johnstone Kavuludi, the 10-day exercise will target 238 officers in the ranks of constables and inspectors.
A notable case involves Bamburi Police Station Base Commander Ababukar Bakari, who was unable to account for up to Sh2 million in M-Pesa transactions using an unregistered phone number. He reportedly sent large amounts of money 74 times to Police Superintendent Evans Getembe, citing a chama (merry-go-round) between base commanders as the reason.
Kavuludi stated that while the exercise started well, a significant number of officers failed to submit personal assessment forms, which could result in their dismissal from service.
