After the killing of Kabete MP George Muchai, his two armed police officers, and a driver, questions arose about how a lone shooter could overpower the group, which included two trained police officers.
An Intelligence Analyst, C L Magere, described the challenges faced by police officers assigned to Members of Parliament and other VIPs. According to Magere, these officers are often required to perform tasks beyond their core duties.
"VIP protection is simply the most thankless job in this country. Basically, your job is to detect and deter threats to your boss. But as soon as you report to work, you become everything."
