Three Kenya Navy servicemen, identified as Senior Sergeant John Apollo, Corporal George Ong’onyi, and Corporal Nyambok, have been dismissed from service after allegedly attending a political rally in Mombasa.
The three are accused of breaching the code of ethics governing the military and other disciplined forces in Kenya by associating themselves with politics.
According to Article 239 (3) of the Constitution, national security organs and their members must not act in a partisan manner, further any interest of a political party or cause, or prejudice a legitimate political interest or cause.
Military sources indicate that the three were spotted by intelligence officers who took their photographs at the rally.
A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the three were informed their services were no longer required and were ordered to vacate the Kenya Navy premises within two hours.
The soldiers returned to the Navy headquarters at Mtongwe, Mombasa, to process their release documents from the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) and relocated their families from the Navy servicemen quarters.
KDF spokesman Bogita Ongeri requested more time to comment on the issue.
