An altercation occurred on Wednesday evening between William Pike, Managing Director of The Star Newspaper, and David Okwemba, the paper's Investigation Editor.
According to the original account, the incident began when Mr. Pike approached Okwemba's desk and questioned why he had not covered the Tatu City Annual General meeting held in Ruiru the previous day, despite being assigned to do so.
Pike reportedly lectured Okwemba in front of his colleagues, leading Okwemba to pack his belongings and leave Lion Place, where the Radio Africa Group offices are located. Okwemba felt demeaned by the public reprimand and decided to resign.
As a shareholder at Radio Africa Group, which owns The Star Newspaper, Kiss TV, Kiss FM, and Classic FM, Mr. Pike holds significant influence within the organization. Okwemba, a renowned investigative print journalist who joined The Star from BBC about a year ago, had allegedly been frustrated by Pike since his arrival.
