A major announcement is anticipated from President Uhuru Kenyatta, with speculation rampant on social media.

Well-placed sources indicate that President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have been considering a cabinet reshuffle, which may be announced as early as Sunday evening. The changes could also affect heads of parastatals and Kenyan missions abroad.

However, there are suggestions that the two leaders may have disagreed on the final list of appointments, potentially delaying the announcement. Their Jubilee Alliance, which came to power in 2013, operates under an equal power-sharing agreement that encompasses all public appointments.

Another possibility is that the President and his deputy will address the nation on the ongoing teachers' strike, which has entered its third week and resulted in the closure of all public schools. The strike has put pressure on the Jubilee Alliance, with opposition leaders from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) announcing a major rally in Nairobi to express their stance on the state of the nation.

In preparation for the potential announcement, the government-owned broadcaster KBC has deployed an outside broadcasting van and crew at State House Nairobi since Friday.
