On July 24, 2019, Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, announced plans to seek the extradition of Paolo Porcelli, the Italian director of construction firm CMC di Ravenna, over the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
According to Reuters, Kenya will seek the extradition of the Italian construction boss to face charges related to the tenders in which Sh19 billion was lost.
Mr. Haji stated that Kenya will issue an international arrest warrant against Mr. Porcelli, citing evidence that the Italian firm was struggling and under liquidation in Italy when it was awarded the contract.
CMC di Ravenna denied any wrongdoing in a statement on Monday, but investigations established that government officials flouted procurement rules when awarding the contract to the Italian firm.
Mr. Haji noted that the evidence collected so far is sufficient to prosecute the suspects, and his office is tracing the proceeds from the dams project deal to ensure that any looted funds are returned to public coffers.
